"A recent study determined that the intersection in Pahoa is the most dangerous in the world."
Not surprising considering that;
1. The right hand right of way is not observed here and when making a right turn one must yield for cars making a left off the highway at such marked intersections. Stupidest rule ever and doesn't consider that those making a left turn off the highway cannot know for certain if those making a right off the highway have a yield sign or not unless they are familiar with the intersection. Not to mention that this law in Hawaii is not normal to the rest of the nation and begs for tourist to become victims of the unique Hawaii rule.
2. The entry lane to south 130 was marked over and blocked off with sticks forcing motorist to make a hard right directly into a fast moving traffic lane as if motorist aren't familiar with merging entry and exit lanes. The current layout is a mistake in proper lane marking techniques creating the problems that are happening.
Simply marking the lanes properly and adopting an entry lane in the currently wasted shoulder while changing the State law to right hand right of way like every other state and developed nation would use (left hand right of way in UK nations etc using left lane travel) would solve the damn problem.
The problem is the Hawaii DOT overzealous and over controlling lane marking practices and the wayward Hawaii breaking of the right hand right of way rule established in this nation long before Hawaii became a state. There are very good reasons for the right hand right of way rule yet this state seems to think it knows better (BS).
