LAND ACQUISITION AND DESIGN FOR WIDENING THE TWO LANE HIGHWAY TO FOUR LANES OR ALTERNATE ALIGNMENTS IN THIS CORRIDOR. THIS PROJECT IS DEEMED NECESSARY TO QUALIFY FOR FEDERAL AID FINANCING AND/OR REIMBURSEMENT.
There was a story on Hawaii Public Radio a few months ago about the backlog of federal funds on state highway projects in Hawaii. The feds had said if Hawaii DOT didn't get moving on some of their projects they would rescind the funding. As kalakoa pointed out, it's difficult to find a firm date for any particular project, but perhaps this is the state starting to speed up the highway construction process?
