It is a problem to be aware of. A contractor friend of ours recently lost about $30K worth of tools and materials from a job site. We have been very fortunate, but as stated earlier, our neighbors kept a watchful eye. Additionally, we were left site to go back to the mainland, I would hide the high value items from sight and easy access - that meant losing a couple hours work time at beginning and end of trips, but we didn't lose things.
