Becomming overly fixated on identity issues, especially "cultural" and particularly "racial" identity fixations, typically ends up in some skewed perspective ego weirdness, zealotry, and occasionally worse. At the minimum it usually ends up with those on the receiving end feeling barraged with a constant stream of self-gratifying propaganda ... hitching a ride on the backs of some cherry-picked collection of supposed ancestral lineage. It's like, OK already, your ethnic ancestry (albeit often cherry-picked) is so super awesome and special, again and again. So esoteric, so wonderous.
