Thanks Lucy for all your insight we actually have dogs but I started the topic thinking of everyone that has any kind of pet. Perhaps those that live on the island have personal experiences to share with the forum as well as opinions concerning medical services and pet stores. You should actually consider moving to the Island yourself and becoming The Auntie for all the animals I know I would love to know of someone who could care for our furry friends should an emergency arise that would call us away. Perhaps also there are those nursing homes or inpatient care services that advocate therapy dogs. Our Great Pyrenees, Akela loves to help folks any way she can whether it be sheep watching or providing bedside manner to the convalescing elderly. Also perhaps there will be discussions about best places to socialize your pet, or parks that allow pets. Anyway this was and is my thinking for the topic, hope this better helps you and everyone else help me and others who are concerned for their pets arrival to a strange place. I not sure but I think they perhaps won't find things quite as exciting as we would therefore anything I can start doing now for their arrival would be in their best interest like being sure the same foods are available, or starting them on those that are... Your mention of certain insects, toads and perhaps there are plants one should make sure not to let them eat. Our dogs are country freegrazers and love to eat anything that fits in their mouth.
Why can't you start your chat idea or an Island Pet Column right here on the forum and possibly become the animal liaison for Island NewComers.
