If the gov isn't stepping up to the plate, why don't we?
Why not both? Government and individuals working together have a better chance of minimizing the effect of the outbreak.
This is not a criticism, just a comment. The fact that a physicist is publicizing the do-it-yourself mosquito traps doesn't really add to the validity of the traps performance, unless the trap in some way functions by reacting to the mass and acceleration of the insect. Although the eventual effects of gravity are no doubt applied as the bug sinks to the bottom of the bucket, this is likely a consequence of any container based trapping system, rather than a design feature. The trap being promoted around Puna recently employs the expertise of biologists and entomologists in it's practical operation. I would agree the average physicist is probably smart enough to know whether or not it works though.
And I suppose it does sound better to say "physicist" rather than "that one really smart scientist guy." So never mind.
