Media reports suggest that one consults their primary care physician, who takes a sample and sends it off to the State labs on Oahu; those results are forwarded back to the doctor, who then contacts the infected person to tell them that yes, they did have dengue (past tense, because this whole process takes at least 1-2 weeks).
