I don't have a Honolulu-specific example but every hospital I've encountered has paid social workers that already have this information at their fingertips including access to substantial discounts. When my daughter was medevaced to Seattle, Children's Hospital hooked me up with a nearby hotel that had a free shuttle and also the first night at hotel was free and subsequent nights were at a discount.
ETA: Again, not sure your friend's specific hospital but many of them have expanded facilities for family members and loved ones including (free) showers and group therapy. There is a hospital dept that deals specifically with this (I forget what its called... social services?) You can find out more once you call and ask. I was amazed at how much a few hospitals we've been to actually offered. One hospital even had free massages (courtesy of a nearby massage school) a few times per week for family members dealing with these stressful situations. Never used it myself but looking back I wish I did.
Good luck and sorry you and yours are going through this.
