geochem - I certainly agree that politicians, or any public figure, should be left alone when they are in a private setting, such as their home or their friends' homes. I've no problem with them partying and becoming disgustingly drunk if that's what they do in private (I'll draw the line at the president!).
I thought Kenoi was in a private party at first, but it turns out that's not the case, and given that, he should not have given that drunken speech. Or, if he chose to do so, should have managed to control himself. A few simple words, even if slurred, would not have made the news.
What he did is embarrass the voters and residents of the Big island. He disgraced himself and he disgraced the office of the mayor.
Sorry. You might disagree, no problem if you do, but as you can see, I feel strongly about this!
