I've been throwing ashes from my firepit around plants and trees for years. I was told to do it because it was good for the soil. The ashes spread around the ohia doesn't have to be ohia ashes but any kind of ashes from your fire pit. But as a practical matter, yes, it is a good idea to burn the infected ohia and never allow it to leave your property.

Ohiagrrl, I believe you meant to say "furo" and not "fudo". Furo is the Japanese bath tub.
