HEY! LOOK WHAT I FOUND!
Hawaii Island Awarded $1.8 Million for Coqui Frog Iradication - - Tuesday, 16 May 2006, at 9:30 a.m.
$1.8 million has been appropriated by state legislators specifically for Big Island coqui frog eradication. The County of Hawaii will receive $1 million; $300,000 will go to to the Dept. of Land and Natural Resources, and $500,000 will be given to the island's Dept. of Natural Resources. The coqui frog has become a real problem on the island, affecting real estate prices in some areas, and the sleep of those near them, in general. The tiny, dime-sized frogs, native to Puerto Rico, have a surprisingly loud chirp, which can even make having a conversation difficult in a densely infested area.
