There's no going back. Anyone who really believes development should cease needs to leave the island, because the real problem is that people are living here, and those people aren't going to catch fish and hunt pig, they want a supermarket.
Instead, we've reached the point where people are petitioning for -- and getting -- contested case hearings about a new cellphone tower -- on the grounds that the land is "sacred" because (from the transcript) "I walk by there every day".
It's foolish to hope that development can be stopped by making the process so expensive and time-consuming that projects will be shut down.
