The fact that there is a financial interest at all is what makes it a conflict of interest.
This entire island is one big conflict of interest. Every dollar spent on lawyers and lawsuits is a dollar not spent on roads, high-speed internet, other useful infrastructure. It's an absurd waste of resources. Especially when there's broad general agreement about the desired outcome: road maintenance, property values.
Day-Lum handled HPP's receivership. They have more problems than ever now.
If I dig into the history, I'll probably discover that someone skimped on the solution. Receivership is merely a Big Reset. Installing a worthless Board afterwards means that yes, receivership was a waste of time and money.
