No bloodbanks on hawai'i island.

I knew somebody on the mainland that was AB- and a donor, and they would call her from time to time explain they were low on her blood type and could she come in and donate. She always did. One time she offered to be a bone marrow transplant donor and she found out that to be a bone marrow donor, SHE would have to pay to have her marrow tested to see if there were any matches. And it was expensive. That was almost 20 years ago so not sure if it's still the case but we were floored when we found this out.
