Was in Nevada yesterday and wanted to share this as I believe that Nevada has the second largest population of Hawaiians out side of the state of Hawaii.
I shook the hand of a born and raised Hawaiian yesterday at a rally at the University of Nevada, Reno. A Punahou graduate he is, Senator Barack Obama! A record rally 14,000 attended! For Nevada this is an unpresidented number! A few of my impressions for you if you choose.
As you all know I'm not a deeply religious person, but when he took my hand to shake it, something happened in that nano second moment, it was a prayer, it popped into my head as sure as I'm sitting here writing this note. What washed over me was, "I will say a prayer FOR YOU each and every night", at the time it didn't enter my mind what to pray just that I would do this.
His presentation was to the point, although Healthcare was to be the subject, that was overtaken by the need to discuss our financial
crisis. Senator Obama was covering many subjects, offering great guidance on how he is working hard to secure our futures, if we become involved in that future it will only be a matter of time to put us back into the stature that the world once viewed our nation. He was sincere, inclusive of the entire group, encouraging us to take our futures in our own hands. He outline many of his plans on getting people back to work and helping clean up our environment and sharing some of his plans for doing exactly that. Together we can.
As he concluded his speech, smiling widely he took off his suit jacket and the crowd roared in frenzy, I imagine this signaled to the group he would come down and be among us. That is what he proceeded to do, as he left the podium and walked down the run way headed toward the stairs, and where I was standing. I saw his smile relax and a determined look appear and with that expression I saw, the work is hard work, the work is tiring work, very taxing doing the work of the people, and not all glamour and fun one might entertain thinking.
So I ask you if you cannot be involved in an active way, that's ok I'm retired so available! LOL Please read what you can and each night say a prayer for Senator Barack Obama and one for his family, and our nation. Pass it on! VOTE, every vote makes a difference, even in Hawaii and California!!!! I do mean this, numbers if they reach record heights will be written about and lauded for many years to come! Please VOTE. This will be a historic election year 2008!
Aloha,
