But I'm in favor of scrapping the missile alert. Tsunamis? Yes. Other natural disasters? Sure. The only chance of a missile attack on Hawaii would be in the event of yet another error on the part of another country, and the odds of actually striking the state would be very small. No benefit in having a missile alert at this time.
The issue with scrapping a system based on one false alarm and the current probability is that it doesn't take into account future possibilities. Certain whacko leaders with nuclear programs may have better technology in the not so distant future.
I think the real problem is that there's not a ton you can do to protect yourself if you are in a higher value target like Honolulu. Puna is a very low probability target. Even Bradshaw airbase is likely a tertiary target at best so the good news for us is that even in the event of a nuclear strike it is unlikely to have a serious impact on the district.
