Numerous firearms to include pistols, rifles and shotguns were taken.

Since the (numerous) firearms were taken by a thief I think we can safely assume that an arsenal of guns, presumably for protecting the owner's home, are now in the hands of a criminal. Which is pretty much the opposite of what the homeowner thought would happen.
