A woman accused of being involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a motorcycle rider and then triggering fires that destroyed two homes appeared in court in El Dorado County on Tuesday, as prosecutors filed more than 20 charges against her.
Tamara Wilson entered the courtroom in a wheelchair and hid her face throughout the afternoon hearing.
The El Dorado County District attorney unveiled 22 charges against Wilson, including gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, hit and run, and 17 different counts of recklessly causing fire.
The charges stem from an incident on Highway 49 Sunday, where Wilson is accused of hitting a motorcycle and killing 58-year-old Gregory Shannon, and then fleeing in a pickup truck that was missing a front tire -- the rim sending a shower of sparks that touched off grass fires alongside the highway. The fires ultimately burned down two homes.
Also Tuesday, a judge increased Wilson's bail from $1 million to $10 million.
Wilson entered pleas of not guilty to all the charges. If convicted, she faces a maximum of 27 years in state prison.
