personally i have always paid more attention to the rift zones and topography then to the zones. vancouver islander, eden roc is in 3 but not in mauna loa rift anymore than the rest of the island. we have been in mountain view for over 40 years and the last time mauna loa went off, set on our lanai and watched the flow, but felt very safe, while it got within 4 miles of hilo town. Pele is unpredictable of course but topography does matter..
There is some risk from Mauna Loa, but it would take a very long period of eruption to fill in enough to get too far into Eden Roc. I guess the biggest risk would be if a large vent opened Mauka of the rift zone up near the summit, but most vents seem to appear on or Makai of the rift.
