Food Poisoning
#4
Hi Nancy, Glad you are on the mend. Gene and I both had food poisoning not 6 months ago. We became sick about 11 PM one evening and spent the entire night bed to bath, sweats, chills, fever and all the ralphing to the sea gods. We had eaten our usual breakfast of cereal, with milk, fruit, and juice with toast. Nearly every morning we have this. For dinner that evening we ate in and I made a quick macaroni and cheese with a large salad of packaged salad mix, no extras this particular evening. I used oov and he used Ranch dressing.

Neither of us had ever been so ill. It took a good week for the weakness to go away. Drank lots of water and fruit juice for two days.

Had that first night been much worse I would have gone to the hospital also. I too thought I'd rather die, but could breath. The dizzyness lasted two days also.

Very strange indeed. The only thing we could come up with because of the sudden onset of the illness was the lettuce, and not a week later 60 minutes did an article about tainted salad mixes.

The pre washed salad mix we ate was from Costco and was well within date. I called the local health department, and they weren't even interested in this, much to my surprise.

When I heard the article on 60 minutes, I wrote an email to the CDC, as they were part of this coverage, but they thought the problem was central and east coast. Well I email and said the west is involved also. No one wanted the serial numbers off the package. Oh well out of sight out of mind.

I worried so as a friend/older had just been released from the hospital for a surgery. If she had eaten that salad, I'm positive it would have killed her. That is the only real reason I reported this incident.

Only good part is I lost 7 lbs, but it sure scared me. Time has restored my eating habits to their normal and I do eat bagged lettuce once again, however if this ever happens to me again I am going to the hospital also.

Hang in there, Nancy and oh ice popcycles helps too. Aloha, Mella
