Time to begin discussing Puna lava viewing site
#93
"officials say lava feeding into the ocean has created more than 9 square miles"

For clarity, the total area covered by this flow is 9.5 square miles. The lava delta is 380 acres or ~0.6 square miles. This info is on the USGS flow maps at the bottom.

As for the lava viewing area - could it be done safely, of course it could. Plenty people have their home videos and selfies of everything from fissure 8 to the river near 4 corners already. I don't think it is much of a coincidence that the Y was announced as the potential viewing area and then shortly afterwards an overflow and brush fire were noted. Almost like County wants to appear to consider the request, but find ways to never actually implement it. What again would be their incentive to take on this task?
