Ever since my first viewing of The Wizard of Oz, I’ve been told I should pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Over the years I think most of us have come to recognize that it’s the curtain we need to watch.

It’s not that difficult to narrow down a potential list of protagonists hiding on the other side of the curtain. It’s almost never the average guy or the common man. Besides, there’s too many of them to fit back there. It’s standing room only for a select few.

As any fan of TV detective shows understands, you should look for means, motive, and opportunity. Then when you’re getting close, the distractions will be unleashed, and the denials forthcoming.
