It seems Hawaiian airlines are giving free aerial views of the lava flow (as long as you've paid for your ticket to Oahu). I came back this evening and saw a Hawaiian airline jet flying just off the coast of HPP at around 2000 feet towards lower Puna and it turned back a few minutes later to give everyone else a view. Checked it on flightaware.com and it seems they do this if they can take off from Hilo early so as not to delay the landing in Honolulu. I know someone else mentioned this some weeks ago but can't find the post.
Good on them, I'm sure the passengers appreciate it. Flight HA 141 if anyone wants to check it for themselves.
