Quake 8.2 in Fiji - no tsunami
#4
Deep? I'll say. 350-odd miles, well below the lithosphere. These aren't common and not well understood. They're called deep-focus or plutonic earthquakes. Seems there was a deep aftershock as well, a mere 290 miles. Fortunately, these earthquakes are so deep they don't cause that much shaking on the surface, so that's why a threat to Hawaii was quickly ruled out.
