I certainly can't disagree with your first paragraph. I've lost count of how many astronomy-related articles I've seen that are over-sensationalized, the odd one or two including my own work. Quite often you get interviewed by a very friendly journalist who seems to have some idea about the science, and then, after the interview, you ask if you can read and suggest changes to the article and the answer is always no. I gave up doing that stuff unless I had a written agreement beforehand that I could have a final say in the final article. Never got one so didn't give them an interview.
