Helicopter working the coast in hpp
#7
Update, Wed evening:

48 cars were parked along Beach Road this evening (I counted them). Approximately 125-150 people stood in groups along the road, across the cliffs, and beside the shoreline, still staring at all the waves between land and horizon, watching for any unusual color, shape or movement.

The family and their friends were, along with the missing man, from Chuuk, one of the Federated States of Micronesia. Their vigil was quiet, somber, even the children who occassionally chased each other across the lava did so in an unobtrusive manner.

Over the years I’ve witnessed a search for perhaps four or five drowning victims along the coast in this general area. I’ve never seen an outpouring on this scale, or anything like it. Wednesday would be the third and last day for the helicopter search.
