I normally just pay my registration online but last year because of the eruption one of my registration notices got lost in the mail. When you pay online you just get the total and pay it.
We went in to the DMV and paid in person so we got an itemized receipt.
This is for a 51 year old car that is driven about 1000 miles per year.
State reg fee $40.00
State reg fee EM $5.00
County reg fee $12.00
Vehicle disposal $12.00
Emblem $.50
County wt tax $41.00
State wt tx $57.40
COH- beautification $1.00
State wt tax penalty $8.00
County wt tax pen $8.00
Volcano Nat park $25.00
Total $209.90
We got hit with $16.00 in penalties for being late even though it wasn't really our fault. When I complained I was told I need to look at my sticker every once in a while. The car was in storage in a safe place !
What is really unfair is the weight tax.I am being charged as much for driving 1000 miles a year as someone who drives 25,000 miles a year.
Which person cause more wear to the roads ?
Time to go high tech and deploy license plate scanners and charge by usage. It's happening on the mainland now.Probably something for the 22nd century for Hawaii.
