For engine out they wouldn't do an emergency descent.They would get out the single engine drift down chart and slowly descend.Then they apply climb power until they are back at altitude and then start the drift down over.
They did an emergency descent to 10,000 ft and then stayed there for the last 2 1/2 hours of the flight.
