Comments in these forums and elsewhere suggest that the choice is actually short-term, leave-vacant, or sell.
If County/State really want long-term rentals, then they should adopt policies that make it feasible.
If County/State want to encourage homeownership, then they should adopt policies that make it feasible.
in many places our substandard infrastructure is not set up to handle the increase in commercial activity
Whose fault is that? Again, policies: County could just as easily impose access and utility requirements -- like they already do for "ag tourism" -- after which any failure of the TVRs to achieve those standards is not County's problem.
I can hardly wait to see what the local economy is like after a few more years of this crap.
