Very true on the mainland. People of color targeted by the cops. But in Hawaii?
This relates to my post a few days back about supposed "disparate" treatment of native Hawaiians and part-native Hawaiians. The claim is in this prison reform plan, p. 23.
If people of Hawaiian blood find themselves in prison more, it is a problem of their own making.
There's been no documentation of law enforcement racism or disparate treatment against any people of color in Hawaii. If anything, at least several decades back in more rural parts of Hawaii, cops were sometimes more likely to give white people citations--who were often perceived by locals as loud mouth know-it-alls.
Back on topic, we probably won't have a problem of Hawaii's police going on a ticket-writing spree for marijuana offenders. Fortunately, Hawaii's police don't have the revenue generation strategy that is common on many parts of the mainland.
