Another take on TMT - Aggrieved native Hawaiians
In this thread:

http://www.punaweb.org/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22533&whichpage=54

I posted a link to a document written by astronomers that is a first attempt to describe astronomical literacy. Unfortunately, I suspect an addendum will be needed for a few people in Puna and Hawaii:

* Observatories don't affect the water table;

* Neither do they spy on the Middle East;

* They also don't launch satellites;

* They aren't run by international businessmen;

* The observatories have not prevented people from carrying out their religious practices on MK and in fact have helped them do so;

* The observatories on MK are all different, so look at things in different ways;

* That means the TMT can't do what the EHT did, but the EHT can't do what the TMT will do;

* The TMT is not being built on burial grounds;

* The TMT will not wipe out the Wekiu bug;

* The MK observatories do not carry out observations for the military;

* If the TMT isn't built here, then sorry, but you can't use the 1.4 billion dollars on another project in Hawaii;

* Astronomers aren't a bunch of rich people having fun.

I'm sure I've missed out a whole bunch of stuff, but it's a start.
