"Our resident PunaWeb scientist already stated earlier in a previous thread that he is part of the 4.64%. He put people believing in aliens in the same category as flat-earthers."
EW, I do not appreciate you putting words into my mouth, it's a disingenuous and dishonest form of debate. If you could be bothered to read back in this very thread, you'll see that I have written:
"Yes, one of the biggest areas in astrophysics right now is the search for habitable planets and the search for extra-terrestrial life. One of the main missions of the TMT is to detect atmospheres on exoplanets that could support life as well as looking for indications of actual life.
Obviously, scientists are doing this because they don't think there's any chance of life elsewhere in the universe."
and
"And there are planned future missions to Mars, some of them using the mountains in Hawaii to test their vehicles, to determine if life ever existed on Mars or still does. Done by accredited scientists and engineers with their head stuck in the sand and not believing life can exist somewhere else other than on the earth. Makes you wonder why they do that."
You'll note that Hapunatic's link - https://www.space.com/breakthrough-liste...lease.html - is also to a site describing how astronomers are trying to find alien life in the Galaxy. The article features a survey asking about the possibility of alien life elsewhere, and like just about every other astronomer, I believe it's almost certain there is life elsewhere in the universe. And finally, I'm personally involved with research going on right now into the planetary system around TRAPPIST-1 which has three Earth-sized planets in the habitable zone and are candidate exoplanets for trying to detect alien life.
I would appreciate an apology for your complete and deliberate misrepresentation of my position.
