As well as the Maunakea observatories, we should also remember that an awful lot of people who rely on the observatories for work are suffering. Contractors and other local companies, run and employed by locals that provide services to the observatories, are suffering. Unrelated to the observatories, the summit tour companies are being crippled; again, local companies who employ local people. Without safe and guaranteed uninterrupted access to the summit (weather aside), the observatories will remain closed and that hurts thousands of people on the island.
