Your auntie should know that 2/3 of residents, and half of native Hawaiians, approve of the TMT, so it's not as simple as Hawaiians vs newcomers. Even many that are anti-TMT don't agree with the road being blocked. As such, the protesters are misrepresenting themselves, and don't deserve to be negotiated with.
I think the most workable solution is the one already upheld by the supreme court: dismantle 3+ other telescopes as this one is being built. Separately, I do believe OHA/DHHL lands and assets should be turned directly over to Hawaiians and other families that were citizens of the kingdom, so they can use the land as they see fit.
