the logic to police checkpoints...
I think the presence of the police on the streets could serve us very well. They could be as simple as cruisers occupying speed traps and ramped up to a more in your face kind of stops as the situation warrants.
If nothing else they enforce the seriousness of the situation. And if people show any sign of not respecting the lock down order could be expanded to limit people to routes needed to serve their immediate needs.
But initially, they reinforce the seriousness of the situation and allow the police to be in touch with the truths as they are playing out on the streets.
And, of course, anyone moving around with malicious intent can be easily identified and dealt with.
