Vehicle Recycling Program on the BI
#2
What is the solution here people?

Personal responsibility?
I often hike to the undeveloped north side of Kaloli Point.  I can’t tell you how many times I see a big pickup truck parked on the coast, then the next day they’re gone except for scattered garbage, or garbage collected in a big black trash bag left behind.  It was no problem to drive the plastic containers, bottles, and wrappers in, but then, somehow it became too much trouble to drive it out?

It’s similar with a car.  How much does a cheap car cost?  A thousand or two?  Then there’s the cost of gas, repairs, insurance, etc for the years it’s driven.  Somehow the owner can afford all of that, but when it’s time to junk it,someone can't afford to properly dispose of their vehicle?”

I don’t think affording the disposal fee is the root of the problem.  Unfortunately I don’t think the problem creators are ever likely to be part of the solution either.  What about a low lying area in lava zone 1 as a dump and auto junk yard?  If a lava flow covers it with 50 feet of pahoehoe in the future, problem solved.  Environmentally it may not be that different from the 700+ homes, nurseries, and farms under the 2018 flow.
