...until it suddenly isn't, because we have all these rules and laws just waiting to be enforced. If the "freedom" could be guaranteed, I could let the rest go -- all governments waste money on dumb things to some extent.
There are jurisdictions which don't require permits or licensing for building, plumbing, or electrical work on a private home. Hawaii criminalizes such work while complaining about a shortage of affordable homes and refusing to bring roads or utilities. Requirements can never be loosened; the unions will make sure of that. Living with one eye over my shoulder is tiresome.
