wow. Wallethub is now the beginning and end of commentary on local legal life in east hawaii. I quit.
As someone who has spent several mornings in east hawaii courtrooms - a 3 day grace period is standard stuff. It works like this: You get cited for driving w/o insurance, you go see the judge and beg forgiveness based on whichever excuse you prefer (poverty is a very popular plea), then the judge sends you home to get insurance and return with proof of such within 72 hours and then all is forgiven. I'm not sure how many times you can be forgiven but I've definitely seen repeat offenders receive multiple admonishments.
