Theyʻve backed off considerably from the initial forecast I commented on.  Though admittedly, I am quick to batten.  :-)

Who are "they"?

Possibly the Puna weatherman on FB.  Several days ago he said an extended period of wet weather was likely beginning sometime this week, and he's sticking with it on his latest posting yesterday.  Here it is:

"Both the major weather models show a series of jet stream troughs diving south near or over our island chain. This brings an extended period of enhanced windward showers."

Thanks, but I think it's unlikely that forecast would appear on any app. The current NWS statewide forecast says:

840 PM HST Mon Dec 9 2024"


"An upper level low passing south of the state Wednesday through Friday could bring an increase of showers over parts of windward Big Island and Maui especially around Thursday night into Friday. At this time, it looks like the main instability and moisture should pass south of the state, but a slight shift northward could bring more enhanced showers. Stay tuned for more details."
