I considered that possibility too.
Consider this.
Your neighbor in HPP has blasted off fireworks for many years, days before the holidays, intermittently for days afterward. You decide to walk over a week before and politely request that this year, could they perhaps maybe limit the festivities to legal fireworks for a few hours on the actual 4th & News Years Eve? What do you think their response would be?
Governor Green is using this approach on thousands of people. And the response would most likely be the same, times thousands.
You're too smart to think that yours is in any way a reasonable, logical, or persuasive comparison. It's Jackfruit to Poha Berries. I'm not the Governor of the State of Hawaii. I do not wield the ability to persuade with force of arms. I do not have the bully pulpit. Maybe if you ask the question where Josh Green goes next door to his neighbor and makes that request, we might be getting closer to a reasonable, logical, persuasive comparison. I will submit that if he did do that, my gut tells me that his neighbor would be very likely to comply.
He's trying to move a state full of people, not just one neighbor. Someone "reading the room" would easily recognize that authoritarians are losing power just about everywhere. It's time for a more respectful, less authoritarian approach and for decisions made with logic instead of fear and emotion. That's the room I'm in anyway and I really hate the fireworks. Plenty.
I wish you all the best.
