Hawaii Island outage update as of 2:45 p.m. HST on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025: Crews are aware and responding to multiple storm-related outages across Hawaii Island, including in the areas of:
- Waiakea Uka
- Parts of Kaumana
- Keaau
- Mountain View/Kurtistown
- Hawaiian Paradise Park
- Pahoa
- Kapoho
- Volcano/Royal Hawaiian Estates
- Hawaiian Beaches
- South Kona/Capt Cook/Milolii
- Keauhou mauka on Hwy 180 to Honaunau
- South Point/Punaluu/Pahala
We are urging customers to prepare for the possibility of extended power outages due to a powerful storm system that is moving across the state.
Outages are being reported on all islands as strong winds and thunderstorms began early this morning. The number of customers and impacted areas are dynamic and will change as the storm makes its way across the island chain.
Depending on the storm’s ultimate path and intensity, damage to the electrical infrastructure could be extensive. Repairs could take longer, and in extreme cases require us to rebuild parts of our system. Flooding, fallen structures, debris and other obstacles also can affect the scope and speed of power restoration.
Immediately after the storm clears, we will send out teams to conduct damage assessments so we can estimate when repairs will be finished and power restored in each affected area.
If you see a downed power line, assume it is energized and dangerous. For emergencies call 911. For Hawaiian Electric, call our Hawaii Island Trouble Line: 808-969-6666. Please stay safe!
Mahalo for your continued patience and understanding.
