Roads Are Easements Not Planned Communities Or HOAs

I do not know how much of Gary Larson's work is in the public domain. And you are correct, I have not researched that- YET. But I do know that there is a company called FarWorks which handles all of his copyright concerns:

"..all comics, artwork, text, photos, video, images, icons, characters, logos, designs, layouts, domain names, URLs, and other content and materials included in or relating to the Site (with the exception of User Materials, Third-Party Content, and AMU Materials, all as defined below), together with the overall appearance and look and feel of the Site and all copyrights, trademarks, trade dress, derivative works, and other intellectual property rights therein, are the sole and exclusive property of FarWorks or Gary Larson (collectively the "FarWorks Content")"

First, why would you thank Obie?

Secondly, I'll let you have three guesses who wrote the italicized words above.

Thirdly, FarWorks, Inc. is the production company of Gary Larson. In as much as the cartoon I posted is indeed copyrighted by FarWorks, Inc., as well as Gary Larson, it resides in the "public domain."

Now, if someone were to take one of Gary's cartoons and try to use it for their own financial gain, that COULD be an issue without permission, but then there are various clauses in US Copyright law that sunset certain copyrights automatically over a period of 10, 15, 25, 50, 100 years, so that may or not be an issue.

Since the cartoon I posted is not being used for any monetary gain, it falls well within the scope of the "fair use doctrine" as well as it being in the "public domain."

But leave it to you Patricia, to argue copyright law with a copyright attorney. I am sure I am just a buffoon and should bow to your unbridled expertise of the occupation I held for almost 40 years.

Just a suggestion, if a doctor tells you that you have cancer, I'd suggest listening to the doctor and not arguing with them.
