Hi Sister Sue,
You say.. your daughter, and her cousin.. so I am left imagining there are elders, you're her mother.. the cousin's mother and father.. one of them.. are they siblings of your's perchance?
Can the elders in this situation confer? Come to agreement.. put pressure on the young ones to recognize and protect the over all family dynamic? Impress on the one in the tent, hey it's untenable, but so, it can be equally untenable elsewhere and not challenge the relationships we have that have to endure far beyond the moment and one or another's personal challenges?
That would be my first approach.. get tutu and kane to put their foot down.. stop with the pilikia already.
Another would be for you, and your daughter, to do the leg work to contact the appropriate organizations and find them an alternative. Something they should do themselves. Contact social services, church groups, talk it up every which way.. find housing temporary or otherwise.. and present it as a done deal. Here's the plan.. move on.
But short of that.. it's probably time to have the buddhas come in and help them on their way. When they aint there pack up their stuff and put in on the curb. But that's got to be heart wrenching. And I would hate to think you all would have to resort to such tactics.
God bless.
It's her friend but they've always called each other "cousin". And you're right about putting our "foot down" finally. My daughter is not alone in this problem. She has two adult wonderful daughters who are around to help her as well as me. It is heart-wrenching especially since they've been so close since they were 6 years old, but have obviously gone in different life directions. Thank you everyone for your input.
