Marking your name in big bold letters is good, wrapping it in duct tape so it looks broken is also a good thief deterrent. A friend of mine sprays all of his tools with either yellow or white spray paint.
Either leaving someone on site to watch things or picking up the tools when leaving the site may be a wise thing to do, especially in an area known to have these sorts of things happening.
We had some one breaking into houses in our neighborhood because of ice. They finally caught the guy and the whole neighborhood went in to testify at his hearing about how their lives were disrupted and upset by his activities. He got 128 consecutive years with no parole. Work with your police to catch the guy and nail the burgler to the wall as an exhibit for others.
