I think like many Americans who are descendants of several cultures, Mexicans that I have known have many cultures in their backgrounds as well. I mean Spain for instance - the Mexicans I know feel no love for Spain since they feel they were raped and pillaged by them. I have friends who will quickly correct someone referring to them as Spanish, although they speak a version of Spanish, they will say they are MEXICAN. I believe Germany had a go at Mexico as well, among several other countries.
Too much analysis here gives me a headache. In plain terms my point is that there's always someone calling another culture "lesser" for one reason or another. I don't think that will ever change - but I do like the fact that it's not okay anymore to refer to anyone in casual terms that are demeaning. That "N" word is horrid. Even for African Americans to use casually - it's not okay.
