It isn't logical to do throughout a large yard, however, for small garden areas or around certain plants I use red chile pepper flakes. Pigs "snuffle" the ground with their nose, perhaps their most accute sense, so when they snuffle a big snout full of hot chile pepper flakes... well, they don't soon forget it! I have used this technique in Arizona on the Javelinas as well as here with the pigs. It has worked great in both climates, I refresh the pepper every couple months just in case a new group of pigs comes around.
