Okay guys, I'm really bummed about this posting I saw on the dark side...really. Especially since I had to put our 11-1/2 year old Aussie mix down on Saturday...it just really hit me hard.

"A friend found a dog over here on the East side last Tuesday. The dog was a very sweet female who had obviously recently been nursing a litter. Meanwhile, my friend has a 16 yr. old dog who has reached the point of no more quality of life and has an appointment to be put out of her misery today. So, my friend did everything she could for the "found" female dog..put up flyers, ad in paper, but had to take the dog to the Humane Society as it would have been too upsetting to take the dog home while her 16 yr. old dog was living out her last days.
My friend decided that she would adopt the found dog and told the Humane Soc. that this could not happen until tomorrow. They said they had to hold the found dog for 4 days (until Sat.) anyway. On Sat. my friend called to say that she would pay the $$ in advance to adopt the dog....and that if anyone wanted to adopt the dog before she could...then the adoption would already be paid for!! The staff said they could not make that decision and she would have to talk to a manager on Monday (yesterday). My friend went to the Humane Soc. yesterday to talk to the manager about this....and was informed that the dog had already been put down. Unbelievable"

I was under the impression they held them for two weeks before they were in danger of euthanization...to my dismay I also heard that although they are called the Humane Society...and there are thousands of them all over the country -- they all operate as separate entities...
I do know that unless you place your dog with a no-kill clinic specifically they are at risk of euthanization...AND - once you place your dog with the Humane Society here in the Phoenix Metro area, they state that dog is their property and you have no rights to any information regarding them or their whereabouts...also will not allow you to be at your pets side during any euthanization procedures.
