Although this is most likely true, the seed banks for our future forests are the native forests today. It is important that we protect them.
I don't believe the greatest threat is within our subdivisions though.
A far greater percentage of native forest is controlled by the state.
They currently will lease large tracts state land out to a Paypaya farmer to rip, plant, then abandon to invasives. They've done this to old growth native forest on old Puna road, above Black sands Subdivision.
In my opinion, efforts to protect this resource should target our large state owned tracts.
