I bet about 8 - 10 of us here on Punaweb could break news faster than the Tribune Herald or any other paper on the Big Island....
If Rob would let us.
Newspaper - is just that.... NEWS... most of the times... Old News.
I feel for those that earn an income off re-writing what is already out there... but those are the breaks.
News gathering has been going on along time.
When I worked for UH Hilo's School paper more then 14 years ago... Had something printed that went nationwide... Via UMagazine an online paper that was starting up back then.
The digital era is closing the gap.
Gannets profits are dropping as well as other print formats.
Why read what you think is news...when it's actually a few days old. You can read current news online before it ever gets to print.
The only thing newspaper is good for now... is lining cat litter boxes and starting fires.... other than that... it's just cutting down trees for no needed reason.[
