There is someone who gives lessons in Hilo. I had a couple guests who took lessons while visiting. One was taken to Honoli'i, I think, one maybe to Richardson's.

I don't know who gives the lessons, sorry, try the phone book or a web search.

btw, if you don't know what surf etiquette is, learn about it, or if you try this on your own you will have unpleasant interactions, to say the least. Locals are territorial about line-ups and you have to earn your place.
